so let's get started

started with what? some people actually have something useful to say. me? i'm still trying to figure out what to say. just what exactly is a blog supposed to be used for? i really don't care to share my opinions about things to anyone nor am i qualified to give advice on a lot of subjects. so i reckon my blog will be nothing more than a diary of sorts although advice and opinions may just very well appear. i certainly will try to avoid simply repeating any news stories, i'm not a reporter. i'll probably just use this blog as a bookmark service for myself.

like i said previously i only use linux so most everything i blog about will be about linux. here's my desktop. i am running mandriva 2006 with kde environment. i have 2 samsung syncmaster 20in monitors on a nvidia fx5200 graphics card at 1600x1200 pixel resolution for a total resolution of 3200x1200. this arrangement is called "twinview" by nvidia. i snagged the background images from the web somewhere (apologies and thanks to copyright holder) and layered them to a 3200x1200 template to create the effect of having different wallpapers per monitor. the wallpaper/background is actually 1 image.
